Ciaspole, meaning snowshoes, is a word that we have given to the rest of Italy
For me it’s obvious but do you know what they are? That’s right, special footwear to help you walk on snow. It is no coincidence that the Val di Non was the birthplace of “La Ciaspolada”, the legendary race where competitors wear these strange contraptions on their feet! So now you mean what “ciaspole” means.
Anyone can walk on snowshoes because it is a completely natural way of walking. It is the scenery all around you and the magic of the snow in particular which make this activity so special. I live in this area and often venture out into the woods with snowshoes on my feet, treading lightly on the fresh snow. If you come to the Val di Non in winter, I recommend that you use a local guide: Giorgio and Cristian offer regular outings every weekend!
Just make a booking and make sure you have suitable clothing before meeting up with your guide who will take care of the snowshoes, the route, the stories, safety and the timings. In the warmth of the sun or at night under a full moon, snowshoe walking will soon become your favourite pastime.
