Portoni is one of several Val di Non words that is used to describe the ancient cellars, porticoes or large entrance halls in the villages of the Val di Non where, during spring and summer, the Portoni festivals are held.
The Portoni festivals are a tradition for us, I always take part with the “donne rurali” organisation. The great thing about the Portoni is that all of the clubs and associations in the village contribute to the success of the festival. You might be asking, though, what there is to do at the Portoni festivals? Well, you can wander through the streets of the village and call in to the various cellars to taste traditional food cooked by the different clubs and societies.
There are many Portoni festivals here in the Val di Non, including the Passeggiata Gastronomica in Revò, the Cosina Nonesa en ti Somasi da Fon and the Portoni di Coredo. At each festival, you receive a map of the village with the various cellars and their menus so you can choose where to eat.
Does the idea appeal to you? I will be expecting you at the Donne Rurali portone!
