Campo Flavona

Even in the famous, spectacular Brenta Dolomites there are unique places which few people visit. One of these is Campo Flavona, an amphitheatre in the Dolomites which captures your heart!
Campo Flavona is the bottom of a broad valley above the famous Lake Tovel, towards Passo Grostè. It is a vast expanse, one which is worth visiting several times: every time you come to Campo Flavona, you notice something new! You will be left open-mouthed by the huge prairie, with Malga Flavona Alpine dairy in the middle where, at the start of summer, the cows are brought for grazing until early September. A family looks after the animals throughout the summer in these magnificent surroundings: so it comes as no surprise that the best person to tell us about the most secluded parts of Campo Flavona is Alin, the energetic son of the farmers. He will tell you about the legend which explains why no trees grow on Campo Flavona and only he knows where to take you to find rocks stamped with fossils.

Another feature of Campo Flavona is the scenery straight out of a Western film created by the two rocky buttresses which dominate the green prairie. They are the Turrion Basso and the Turrion Alto, two Dolomite towers which have crumbled, losing their shape and forming enormous scree slopes.
Anyone wanting to spend a couple of days up here can make use of the Malga Flavona bivouac. To use this rustic shelter, you just need to bring some supplies and a “make-do” attitude! From here you can wander over to the Turrion Alto and the Turrion Basso, or further towards Passo Grostè; the footpath to Malga Termoncello offers spectacular views over Lake Tovel, or you can simply lose yourself in the simple delights of a place which is still undisturbed by the masses.

How to find us

To reach Campo Flavona and Malga Flavona you need to drive (or take the shuttle bus in summer) to Lake Tovel. From there, continue for 2 hours along an easy forest track as far as Malga Pozzol, followed by a further half hour climb on a footpath to reach Malga Flavona.
