Lake Tret, located on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino, represents a meeting point between the two cultures and is one of the favorite destinations for trekkers and bikers thanks also to the mountain huts and refuges that rise not far from its shores.
The technical data of just under 20 km and about 700 meters of elevation gain starting from Fondo make it clear that this is a not exhausting outbound route to reach the idyllic Lake Tret at the base of the flank of Monte Macaion. For the first stretch, old dirt roads that once led to Passo Palade are traveled, followed by forest roads climbing through dense larch groves, thus reaching the shores of the sparkling Lake Tret. The return takes place on narrow trails partly covered by vegetation along the eastern flank of Dos de Solomp. Those who do not want to face delicate passages and a short pushing section can also choose to take the uneven forest road that steeply descends to Malga di Fondo.
At Lake Tret, there is plenty of choice on where to stop for a snack: bring a sandwich to eat directly on the lakeshore, or try a typical dish or an excellent slice of cake at the nearby Malga di San Felice or the Waldruhe Refuge.
