This route leads along the western slopes of the Mendel range to the high alpine pastures of Monte Roen. Long, partly steep climbs must be overcome before you can enjoy the descent fun on partly technically demanding single trails.
Two places in the dense forest on the western slopes of Monte Roen are dedicated to a hermit and a bishop, to which this demanding and varied round leads. From Coredo, the route first leisurely leads to the two artificial reservoirs above the village, then the climbs become more strenuous before you have to muster final strength on the concrete ramp towards Malga Smarano. The first part of the descent to Malga di Sanzeno already takes place on a technically rough hiking trail. The second part to the bishop’s forest hut then follows a nice forest trail before you stand in front of the legendary church castle of the hermit of San Romedio. The route back to Coredo then follows a steep forest road again.
Definitely visit the hermitage of San Romedio. Open kiosk and café, bear enclosure.
