More than gravel: a cycling adventure for experienced riders
Have you heard of gravel biking? It’s a cycling discipline that combines the freedom of road biking with the grit of off-road trails. In Val di Non, you’ll find something even more extreme: Alpine Gravel – an experience designed for cyclists looking for technical, high-altitude, and visually stunning routes.
As the name suggests, this is where gravel truly meets the mountains. The Alpine Gravel routes take you through valleys, forests, and alpine pastures, ranging from 650 to 2,200 metres above sea level. Expect very little tarmac, plenty of natural terrain, tough climbs, and unforgettable views over the Val di Non.
These routes are designed for well-trained, experienced cyclists who want to push their limits on challenging terrain. Here’s what you’re in for:
- Significant elevation gain, starting from 970 m D+
- Steep gradients, with sections up to 21%
- Alpine terrain – often loose, rocky or uneven
- Mandatory portage – at times, you’ll need to push or carry your bike
- Technical descents on steep, natural trails
A gravel bike with tyres of at least 38 mm is essential. You’ll need both skill and endurance to take these trails on.
Below you’ll find 6 Alpine Gravel routes: pick your challenge, get your bike ready, and explore the wild side of Val di Non on two wheels!
