(Excerpt from the regulations of the Municipality of Novella approved by resolution no. 43 dated 14.07.2025)
Mandatory use of Protective helmet and life jacket
It is mandatory to wear a protective helmet and a life jacket.
If you do not have them, you can rent them at the Kayak Center of APT Val di Non located at:
- Bar Chalet al Lago, Banco
- Località Le Plaze, Dermulo
- Via Marconi, Revò
- Via Marconi, Cles
Permitted means of access
Only suitable watercraft, such as kayaks and canoes, that ensure on-board safety are permitted.
Access is only allowed with watercraft that comply with the safety requirements of the canyon, taking into account:
- Stability: the vessel’s ability to maintain a stable position.
- User position: seated or otherwise with a low center of gravity.
- Impact in case of fall: reduction of injury risk in the event of a fall in a rocky environment.
Prohibition of SUPs and Motorboats
Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP) are, by their very nature, not allowed, as they have a higher center of gravity and a greater likelihood of falling in a predominantly rocky environment, requiring safety considerations incompatible with the characteristics of the canyon.
Motorboats are prohibited inside the canyons due to the high potential risk posed to users of excursions, except for vehicles authorized by the competent authorities.
Access for Organized Groups
Organized groups of any kind are allowed access only if accompanied by a guide, booked in advance through APT Val di Non.
The term “organized groups” refers to users organized by agencies, tour operators, outdoor centers, guides, any kind of escorts, hotels, B&Bs, farm stays, campsites, accommodation facilities in general including owners of tourist-use apartments, companies, recreational clubs, non-profit associations, parishes, schools, clubs, committees. It also includes groups of people, even if not legally recognized, but organized with the purpose of accessing the canyons together.
All the above categories are subject to the following conditions:
- Mandatory guide: access allowed only with the presence of a guide provided by the Val di Non Tourism Board (Azienda per il Turismo Val di Non).
- Booking and costs: subject to prior booking of the guide, payment of the guide fee, and payment of an entrance fee according to APT regulations.
- Mandatory equipment: obligation to wear a life jacket and a protective helmet.
Liabilities and Sanctions.
The Val di Non Tourism Board (APT) holds the exclusive concession for all forms of organized activities on Lake Santa Giustina, its shores, and the canyons, by virtue of the contract with Dolomiti Edison Energy S.r.l., owner of the basin and its shores.
APT is also responsible for commercial activities conducted in the canyons, including ensuring their safety.
Any behavior not in compliance with these regulations will be promptly reported to the basin owner and the competent supervisory authorities.
Non-compliance with these regulations will result in the imposition of an administrative monetary penalty within the limits established by Article 10 of Law no. 689 of 24/11/1981, ranging from €25.00 to €500.00.
In determining the penalty, the criteria set forth in Article 11 of Law no. 689 of 24/11/1981 shall apply. For violations of this regulation, the reduced payment procedure established by Article 16 of Law no. 689 of 24/11/1981 applies.
