Malga Castrin rises upstream of the village of Castelfondo at an altitude of 1785 m. It overlooks the sweet meadows called “Sous” which were dedicated to haying. In fact, once in August the people of Castelfondo would camp in the meadows to cut and collect hay.
Malga Castrin is a frequent destination for excursions both in summer and winter as it is connected to the other alpine huts of the area by the loop of Malghe delle Maddalene. From here you can easily reach Malga Luregno and Malga Cloz. Also from the Malga you can reach the peaks Cornicoletto and Luco.
Malga Castrin is the only one in the area that offers the possibility to stay overnight with dinner and breakfast service and is an important base for hikers who face the 133 Bonacossa route.
From 1st June to mid-July Malga Castrin is open at weekends. From mid-July to mid-September is open every day. From mid-September to October is open at weekends.
