This short loop on trails along the slopes of the Maddalene mountain group includes a narrow path called “Lez” that was formerly used as an irrigation conduit.
Rumo is a small municipality made up of a series of hamlets at the foot of the Maddalene mountain group on the linguistic border between Trentino and South Tyrol. Here the meadows used for haymaking are very steep and the mountain peaks tower high. Our route takes us from Corte Superiore to Mocenigo and then up to Val Lavazzè, where for the first time you come across the “Lez” path, now disused. In dialect, the term “Lez” defines the old irrigation canals that mostly ran flat across the mountain slopes. This path always stays at the same altitude and heads west towards Lanza, then continues on narrow secondary roads leading to the characteristic South Tyrolean village of Proves. Here you take a fun downhill single trail and then connect to the Rankipino cycle-pedestrian path, reaching first Corte Inferiore with its little church visible from afar, and then Corte Superiore.
Those who want to extend the route once they reach Val Lavazzè can continue the ascent up to Malga Lavazzè; the return, however, takes place on the same forest road as the outgoing journey. At Corte Inferiore, a visit to the Church of Sant’Uldarico is definitely worth it.
