Every year in August, the Maddalene Sky Marathon takes place in Val di Non, Trentino. The 6th edition held on August 24, 2014, was valid for the Skyrunner® Series Italy 2014 circuit and the only stage of the Trentino Alto Adige Regional Skyrunning Championship.
The route, technical and challenging for athletes running it, does not present mountaineering difficulties and crosses places of great beauty: green mountain pastures alternate with clear high-altitude lakes and rocky plateaus offering views towards the Brenta Dolomites and the Val d’Ultimo. Forest, pastures, and rocks will be the terrain for the exciting 44.2 km crossing with an ascent of 2,905 m and a descent of 3,256 m.
The Maddalene Sky Marathon route starts from Senale in the province of Bolzano (1,350 m) and arrives in the town of Rumo (1,000 m) in the province of Trento. The route mainly follows the high-altitude CAI-SAT path no. 133 “Aldo Bonacossa,” well known in Val di Non and frequented by hikers. The path winds at an average altitude of 2,000 m, often above the vegetation, offering wide panoramic views for the sky runners.
The highest point is reached at the summit of Monte Pin (2,420 m) in the final part of the race. The technical descent from Monte Pin will bring the athletes to the town of Rumo, where the awards ceremony will take place in a festive atmosphere. A shuttle service operates between the start and finish areas to provide optimal transport for athletes and supporters. Along the entire route, you will encounter huts, bivouacs, and mountain farms.
Numerous volunteers from various local Trentino and South Tyrolean organizations are distributed along the route to ensure safety and assistance during the race.
