When the sun sets behind the Brenta Dolomites and the Maddalene mountains, Val di Non is wrapped in warm light and silence. It’s that moment of the day when the landscapes change: the mountains reveal shades unnoticed during the day, church towers stand out sharply against the sky, and the air seems to slow down.
If you love sunsets, here you’ll find viewpoints that are not just panoramic, but that also tell you a piece of the valley’s story. Places where you can pause for a moment, let your thoughts drift, and return home not only with a photo, but with a memory that lasts.
Altaguardia Castle

Reaching Altaguardia Castle means entering a silent dialogue with history and the sky. At 1,074 meters, its medieval towers have guarded the ridge for centuries, and when the sun begins to set, they glow in a warm red as if absorbing the light of the fading sun.
From up here, the view is wide and spectacular: the valley stretches below, Lake Santa Giustina shimmers among the orchards, and the mountains turn pink. Often, the wind carries the scent of the forest and the distant toll of an evening bell. Bring a light blanket to sit on and maybe a thermos of hot tea to enjoy the very last rays of the day.
The hike starts from the parking area near Baselga, following trail SAT 440: about 45 minutes of walking and 250 meters of elevation gain, on a wide and well-marked path. At the top, you’ll find a picnic area and information panels about the castle’s history.
Corno di Tres

The hike to Corno di Tres is one of the most loved trails by locals. The path winds through sparse woods and open stretches, a gentle up and down that constantly reveals new glimpses of the valley. As you climb higher, the horizon opens up: to the north you see the Maddalene, while to the south the mighty Brenta Dolomites at sunset glow with golden light.
Reaching the summit at 1,812 meters means standing on a natural balcony overlooking two worlds: Val di Non on one side, the Adige Valley on the other. In summer, the scent of alpine flowers and tall grass swaying in the wind accompany the wait for the most magical moment: the sun slowly disappearing behind the mountains, leaving the sky painted in shades of pink, orange and violet.
We suggest starting from Rifugio Predaia (1,400 m). The trail to the summit is about 4.5 km long, with 400 meters of elevation gain, requiring 1.5 hours of walking. Return along the same path.
It’s a medium-difficulty hike, suitable even for less experienced hikers who are used to walking in the mountains. Bring water, a headlamp for the return, and a jacket: at the top, the temperature drops quickly after sunset.
The Pradiei and “Al Dos” in Romeno
The Pradiei are not a typical mountain viewpoint, but a vast green plateau in Upper Val di Non, an endless stretch of meadows where the gaze runs free among fields, church towers, and mountains: on one side the Adamello Brenta Group, on the other the Maddalene, with small villages scattered in between.
At sunset, these meadows turn into a golden sea. The low rays of the sun rest on the grass and the sky glows with warm shades, from soft pink to deep orange. The air smells of hay and wood, and silence is broken only by the rustle of the wind.
The Pradiei stretch for about 25 km, from Romeno to Fondo, passing through Cavareno, Sarnonico, and the hamlet of Seio. You can cross them on foot or by bike along the Alta Val di Non cycle path, which offers stunning views in every season.
Our favorite spot to enjoy the sunset is Al Dos, just outside the center of Romeno along the Pradiei trail. It’s a small green hill right next to the village playground: from here the view opens onto meadows and houses framed by mountains on the horizon. It’s easy to reach even with children, and perfect for sitting on a bench or blanket while being embraced by twilight light.
In Val di Non, sunset is not just a time of day: it’s an invitation to stop and look. Whether you choose a castle overlooking the valley, an open pasture or an endless meadow, the sun setting behind the mountains lights up the landscapes with new shades and reveals details hidden during the day.
All you need is a jacket on your shoulders, a little extra time after sundown, and perhaps the desire to return: every evening, the show changes, and it’s never the same!
