The mountain farms and refuges in Val di Non open in autumn

In Val di Non the mountain farms are open after summer too - even more reason to go walking in the mountains in autumn!

In autumn the mountains show their best side - the paths are quiet, the sun is warm enough and the sky is so clear that you can even see the furthest peaks.

And in autumn the woods are more alive than ever - the larch trees gradually change colour and the animals go down to lower altitudes to nibble on the grass that hasn’t dried up.

Autumn is also the season when the cattle go back into the villages after their summer on the mountain pastures. This is the moment for celebrating the “Smalgiada”. So many mountain farms close towards the middle of September as they have no cows to look after.

But there are some farms that stay open in autumn and winter. They are the farms located along the most beautiful trekking paths in Val di Non and are an important eating point for anyone walking in the mountains in autumn.
